Scope and Content

This small series is comprised of letters, invitations and printed material concerning NCN-related events which were attended by Doreen Cornthwaite during NCN's lifetime. It consists of:

  • DCN/5/1-5 Two letters from the Open University, two invitations, and a programme relating to the Open University Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Presentation of Graduates on 24 May 1975 at Newcastle University (at which NCN was awarded an honorary MA).
  • DCN/5/6-9 Four tickets for a reading by NCN at Wordsworth House [Cockermouth] on 20 May 1983.
  • DCN/5/10-12 Letter from Copeland Borough Council, official invitation, and Order of Proceedings for the award of Honorary Freedom of the Borough of Copeland to NCN on 18 September 1984; with a photograph of the framed Freedom of the Borough grant document.
  • DCN/5/13-16 Invitation issued to Doreen Cornthwaite to attend the official opening of the Carlisle Library, as a guest of NCN, on 3 May 1986; with a programme and two leaflets.
  • DCN/5/17-18 Two tickets for a reading by NCN at Higham Hall, Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth, and dinner, on 12 March 1987.
  • DCN/5/19 Ticket for a reading by NCN which formed part of Cockermouth Festival on 17 August (year omitted).

Arrangement

This material was originally stored in the large file of papers which makes up DCN/6. The latter series relates to NCN's death, estate and literary legacy, whereas this material dates from NCN's lifetime; it has therefore been described separately.
