Scope and Content

This series contains material relating to Sixsmith's interest and involvement in industrial relations. He was present at conferences held at the Cliveden home of the MP, Waldorf Astor, to discuss relations between employers and workers, and the establishment of local employer/worker groups. The sociologist, Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree (who was very active in the study and practice of industrial management) was also involved in these meetings. Includes: copy of notes on a meeting held at Major [Waldorf] Astor's [at Cliveden] on 27 Nov 1917 (4/1); notes on discussions held at Cliveden house on 15-16 Dec [probably 1917] (4/2); a circular enclosing a draft statement offered as a contribution towards a policy of industrial reconstruction from the viewpoint of the employer, promoting the formation of cartels on the German model (4/3); a pamphlet containing a report on the reconstruction of industry prepared after a series of conferences of employers and trade unionists from Cornwall and Plymouth held in Mar-Apr 1918 (4/4).
