Scope and Content

This sub-series comprises 1917 correspondence between Charles Prestwich Scott (1846-1932), editor and proprietor of the Manchester Guardian, and contemporary politicians, jurists and writers including the jurist James Bryce, Viscount Bryce, the lord chancellor Stanley Owen Buckmaster, first Viscount Buckmaster, and the journalist and newspaper editor James Louis Garvin. Topics covered include senior British military restructuring, the conduct of prime minister David Lloyd George, and British press propaganda.
