Administrative / Biographical History
The Association was founded as the British Deaf and Dumb Association (BDDA) in 1890, and was renamed the British Deaf Association in 1971. It has advocated the interests of Deaf people since its creation and has been particularly active in promoting sign language. The Association is now a Deaf-led organisation.
