The following series comprises four subseries totalling seven items consisting of notes and other research material, all of which is undated. Much of this was no doubt used in his later crime novels, particularly the notes on the Isle of Man (BLU/4/2/1), the island where many of these books were set. The notes vary in format, having been written in notebooks, placed loosely into files or clipped into ring binders. The lecture notes file also contained a large amount of additional material which did not appear to relate to the label on the file, but has been retained to reflect the arrangement of the creator.
