The Faculty of Commerce was established in 1903 following a fundraising campaign orchestrated by the University and Manchester Chamber of Commerce. This aimed to promote the subjects of commerce/economics as valuable to the local business community, and from whom financial support was consequently sought. An executive committee was established in 1902 with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Owens College. This successfully raised funds so the Faculty could be set up by late 1903. The records consist of the minutes of the Committee and an associated file relating to fundraising.
