It includes: articles on Whitman and his work, from pieces written during his lifetime through to the 1950s; reviews of all the major biographies and studies of Whitman published after his death to the 1950s; material relating to book and manuscript sales, commemorative events and exhibitions; papers relating to Whitman's followers in Bolton; and material which contains incidental - and often very brief - references to Whitman and his work in other contexts.
The subgroup comprises cuttings from periodicals and newspapers, entire periodicals, offprints, pamphlets, and posters.
