Administrative / Biographical History
The Faculty of Education was established in 1914, the first such faculty in Britain. Its function was to oversee the admissions, curriculum and examination procedures of the departments within the Faculty (initially education only, later joined by audiology, adult education and physical education). The Faculty was abolished in 2004 when the new University of Manchester was established, with the School of Education becoming part of the Faculty of Humanities.
