A priory for Benedictine nuns was founded at Marrick in Swaledale, North Yorkshire, by Roger de Aske in around 1165. The priory was in the archdeaconry of Richmond. Other than the records of a visitation held in 1252, little is known of the priory's history until the Dissolution. It was surrendered by the prioress, Christabella Cowper, and sixteen nuns on 17 November 1540. The clear annual value in the Valor Ecclesiasticus was £48 18s 2d.
