Scope and Content

The volumes of press cuttings in the collection are an essential source for Basil Dean's career and the history of British theatre and film. They date from 1904, when Basil Dean was performing in amateur theatricals, to the last decade of his life, and contain, in addition to reviews of his productions, many interviews with him on a wide range of subjects related to stage and cinema, together with articles he wrote and speeches he made.

This series is divided into two subseries: DEA/11/1, press cuttings books, 35 volumes, 1904-1971; and DEA/11/2, unmounted press cuttings, 28 folders, 1924-1971.
