Administrative / Biographical History
Harvill Press Ltd was established by 1946 as a publishers with its head offices in London, England, publishing a range of fiction and non-fiction books. By 1976 , the company was a non-trading imprint of William Collins, Sons & Co Ltd , publishers, Glasgow, Scotland, with a share capital of å£2,000. In 1989 , William Collins Sons & Co Ltd merged with the American publishers Harper & Row to form HarperCollins. Harvill Press became a subsidiary of Harper Collins Publishing Ltd , before changing its name to HCP (HP) Ltd in 1995. It was dissolved in 1996 . Around this time there was a management buy-out of Harvill Press Ltd and this firm was later acquired by Random House Group Ltd, publishers, London.
