Jean Wilson Arneil was born in Glasgow in 1901. Jean attended the University of Glasgow from 1919-1922 , taking classes in Mathematics and Latin in her first year; English and Mathematics (Higher) in her second, and Logic, French and Political Economy in her third and final year. She graduated with an MA in June 1922 and subsequently worked as a teacher in Glasgow, Earlsferry and Dunoon.
