Administrative / Biographical History

Helen L Frazer was born in Airdrie in 1919. She attended the University of Glasgow from 1936-1940  , taking classes in Natural Philosophy, Chemistry and Botany in her first year; Zoology, Mathematics and Double Botany in her second; Double Chemistry and Botany in her third, and Botany (Honours) in her fourth and final year. She was awarded first class certificates in Botany (Ordinary), Chemistry (Ordinary) and Natural Philosophy (Ordinary) in 1937 and a first class certificate in Botany in 1938. She graduated with a first class honours BSc in Botany in June 1940  and subsequently worked as a research assistant in the Department of Botany at Manchester University until she married James Caldwell in 1947  .
