Throughout his university career, Cochrane kept an unusually full record of the lectures he attended and the class and laboratory exercises he performed, with dates and, usually, the names of the professors or lecturers concerned. It is therefore possible to obtain a detailed picture of the course offered. Many of the books have notes at both front and rear, not always on the same subject
