Coats Fabra was formed in around 1903 following the merger between Sociedad Anonima Sucesora de Fabra i Portabella (Spanish thread manufacturer) and J & P Coats to form Compania Anonima Hilaturas de Fabra y Coats (Coats Fabra). This merger was the first between a Catalan company and a foreign company. The company became the first Spanish company to offer paid holidays to its workers in the 1910s. Coats Fabra were still in operation in 2012.
