Administrative / Biographical History

Thomas Shearer was born in 1909  in Glasgow, Scotland. He started at the University of Glasgow in 1928  studying English Literature and Language, History, Latin, Greek, Moral Philosophy, British History and Logic. He graduated MA in 1932  . He went on to receive a BLitt from Oxford, England before returning to Glasgow to study Theology, graduating BD in 1938  . He went onto a career in the clergy as assistant at Dunblane Cathedral, Scotland, then as a minister in Glasgow. He also served as Army Chaplain between 1943-1946  and later as a School Chaplain in Glasgow. During his career he was secretary and then president of the Glasgow Region of the Church of Scotland Chaplains Association between 1950-1952  and 1953-1955  respectively.
