Administrative / Biographical History

Glasgow University Club, Manchester & District, was formed in February 1906 in Manchester, England. Its object was the maintenance of good fellowship among its members and the promotion of interests of graduates of the University of Glasgow, Scotland, who then lived in Manchester, Liverpool and the North West of England. In 1910, new rules were drawn up which changed the name of the club to the Glasgow University Club, Manchester, Liverpool & District. However, at the 1937-1938 annual meeting, it was decided that the title of the club be reverted back to its original title due to the poor support from graduates in Liverpool. A committee consisting of a president, 2 vice-presidents, treasurer and secretary administered the club. The club met each year for an annual dinner, the last recorded dinner being held in 1946 with that of 1948 being cancelled do to petrol shortages and food restrictions. Nothing is known about the club after 1948.
