Arabesque

A selection of small sketches and copies, dating from the late 19th to late 20th century, all detailed and intricate patterns in an 'Arabesque' style, predominantly in red and green colours. 'Arabesque' style are decorative patterns of stylised foliage characterised by a continuous stem which splits regularly, producing a series of counterpoised, leafy, secondary stems. Used also generally for allover patterns of fanciful foliate scrollwork. Some items have 2 or 3 sketches attached to black backing paper.
