Administrative / Biographical History

Cecilia Isabella Lindsay (nee Mactaggart), daughter of John Mactaggart, shipping clerk, was born in Glasgow on 19 February 1908. She was educated at Hyndland Secondary School. She studied at the University of Glasgow 1925-1929, graduating BSc (Pure Science Ordinary) in November 1928 and MA in November 1929. For the session 1929/1930 she also studied Zoology (Honours) as a postgraduate for a BSc (Hons). Following her marriage to David G Lindsay, she returned to the University to study Medicine as Cecilia Lindsay, graduating MB ChB in 1952. The Medical Directory for 1971 lists her medical career as Medical Officer, Hartwood Mental Hospital; House Physician Psychiatry Southern General Hospital; late Professor of Biology, Anderson Medical College, Glasgow; Medical Officer, Mental Health Service, Glasgow.

She entered a Glasgow nursing home in the early 1980s and died c1988.
