Arthur Lang was born in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1893  . He began studying at the University of Glasgow , Scotland, in 1909  , taking Latin and Greek during his first year. In his second year he studied Latin, Greek and Political Economy. In his third year he studied, Latin, Greek and Moral Philosophy. In his fourth year he studied Greek and Latin. He graduated Master of Arts in 1914  . He went on to serve as a Lieutenant in Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and was killed in action in France in 1916  . His name is included in the Glasgow University Roll of Honour.
