Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
David Ross & Sons wine & spirit merchants and restaurateurs of Glasgow, Scotland appears to have been registered as a wine and spirit company in March 1925, having previously traded under this title since the 1890s. Originally founded by David Ross, proprietor of The Gordon Bar, Mitchell Street, Glasgow, the company expanded owning a number of properties in the city centre.
Under the directorship of George Ross, presumably his son, and Dugald McInnes, both wine and spirit merchants , the firm became a subsidiary company of G & J Maclachlan Ltd, brewers, distillers and retailers of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland, which in turn merged with Tennent Caledonian Breweries Ltd, of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1963.
