Administrative / Biographical History

Fiona Anne MacDonald was born in 1958  . She started at the University of Glasgow in 1976  studying ordinary Scottish history, literature, ordinary French language and literature, higher Gaelic, higher Scottish history, Junior honours Celtic and Scottish history, and Senior honours Celtic and Scottish history. She graduated MA in Celtic and Scottish History in 1980  , and received her PhD in 1994  following the completion of her thesis "Ireland and Scotland : historical perspectives on the Gaelic dimension 1560-1760" (GUL Thesis 10097). To date, Dr MacDonald has continued in academia with three posts at the University of Glasgow - first lecturing in Celtic, secondly as a Research Assistant within Scottish History, and thirdly as a Research Assistant in the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, researching the History of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow to 1858. In November 1998  she took up a fellowship at University College London to continue her research and teaching in Medical History.
