Administrative / Biographical History
By 1976 , Deben Bookshop Ltd was established as booksellers and stationers in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. In 1978 , the company became known as the Ancient House Bookshop (Ipswich) Ltd with its registered offices at 187 Piccadilly, London, England. The company had a share capital of å£50,000 and the firm of William Collins, Sons & Co Ltd , publishers, Glasgow, Scotland, were represented on the board. William Collins had been a director of Deben Bookshop Ltd until his death in 1946 when his son, William J Collins, replaced him as a director. By 1978, the shop in Ipswich was employing 25 people.
By the late 1980s , it appears that the bookshop had been sold and in 1990 William Collins, Sons & Co Ltd changed the name of the company to William Collins G(XVI) Ltd . This company was dissolved in 1993 .
