Scope and Content

The series comprises research papers for 'The Life and Works of Barbara Jones [1912-1978]', by B C Bloomfield, published in the periodical 'The Private Library' by the Private Libraries Association, fifth series, volume 2:3, autumn 1999.

Included are sources collected during the course of his research, such as photographs of Barbara Jones and the site of her home in Croydon; postcards relating to the Festival of Britain, 1951 and sales catalogues; notes taken and drafts made; and research correspondence which includes anecdotes from people who personally knew Barbara Jones.

Administrative / Biographical History

Barry Cambray Bloomfield was a librarian and bibliographer. During his career he was Director of Collection Development at The British Library, President of The Bibliographical Society, The Private Libraries Association and The Association of Independent Libraries. His work includes the standard bibliographies of W H Auden and Philip Larkin and 'A Directory of Rare Books and Special Collections in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland'.

He became a leading authority on Barbara Jones through his research for 'The Life and Works of Barbara Jones [1912-1978]', which was the first detailed consideration of her life and work.

B C Bloomfield lived in Kent and died in 2002.
