    Special Collections at the Royal College of Art contains over 30 discrete collections, most of which contain a significant archival component. Holdings include: Royal College of Art archive (papers, publications, photographs, c.1894-present); L Bruce Archer archive (lectures, papers, essays, diaries and projects, c.1960-2005); Henry Wilson archive (writings, sketchbooks, correspondence, c.1900-1930s); Madge Garland archive (memoirs, writings, photographs, correspondence, c.1920s-1980s); and the Colour Reference Library (over 1,600 books on the subject of colour, including 274 books published before 1850).

  • History

    The RCA archive was established in the mid 1980s by then-librarian Hans Brill to document and preserve the College's history and the achievements of its students and staff. It has subsequently grown into a substantial division of over 30 discrete holdings, many of which relate to the College's history.
