    The Wakefield collections include:

    County wide collections of West Yorkshire and the West Riding County Council

    collection, dating from 1889-1974

    • West Riding Quarter Sessions, dating from the early 1600s, which were responsible

    for county administration and judicial functions

    • The impressive West Riding Registry of Deeds, dating from 1704 to 1970. The

    registry holds nearly 7 million individual deeds contained within 12,000 volumes

    spread across 14 million pages

    • Signifi cant law and order collections including West Yorkshire Police forces, Petty

    Session (Magistrates’) Courts and prisons including HMP Wakefi eld

    • Local authority records of Wakefi eld Metropolitan District Council

    • Administrative county collections of local businesses, charities, voluntary

    organisations and private individuals

    • Family and estate records, including those of the Winn family within the Nostell

    Priory Collection

    • Coroners’ records and hospital records, including Bradford Royal Infi rmary and

    Halifax General

    • Important mental health collections, including those for Stanley Royd, Menston

    High Royds and Storthes Hall Hospitals

    • Wakefield Diocesan records, including baptisms, marriages and burials
