Scope and Content

In May 1809, John Sanxter of Wentworth, Cambridgeshire, gent, and William Hurrell of Foxton, Cambridgeshire, gent, sold to William Green of Witchford, farmer, a farm of 169 acres freehold, leasehold, and copyhold in Witcham and Sutton, Cambridgeshire, in part comprising copyhold estates of Peppercorn Sanxter their late father, whose will they were executing. Green paid the purchase price of #6,000 and entered upon the land. Subsequently he put the farm up for auction,in 31 lots, on 6 Aug 1810, and Lot 23 - 2 acres and foldage for 200 sheep in Cow Crofts, Witcham, part of the Peppercorn Sanxter copyhold estate - was purchased by Richard Blow of Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire, gent, for #141 15s. Since no conveyance or assurance was ever drawn up in favour of Green, this indenture assures Blow's title to his purchase. Tripartite indenture, signed and sealed by Sanxter, Hurrell, and Green, witnessed (for Sanxter and Green) by Thomas Wilkin and William Sanxter, and (for Hurrell) by Wedd William Nash and ?Matthew D Wall, duty stamp. Endorsed with receipt for #141 15s, same date, same witnesses. Further endorsements indicate that the document was twice presented as evidence in the manorial court of Witcham, 1811-12. Text altered in pencil, perhaps as draft for future conveyance?
