Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
This private bank was formed in 1808 as Fellows & Hart. It was located at the Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham and was otherwise known as the Nottingham & Notts Bank. Its partners were John Fellows, Francis Hart and a Mr Mellor. From about 1824 the business was styled Hart, Fellows & Co and in 1866 it was acquired by the English Joint Stock Bank (est. 1866) which failed in May 1866. The business was then reconstructed as a private partnership, Hart, Fellows & Co, which was acquired by Lloyds in 1891.
