Certificate directing Payment of Reward addressed to the Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, Cambridge

Whereas it is directed by an Act of Parliament made in the fifth year of Anne that anyone apprehending and bringing to conviction anyone guilty of burglary or housebreaking should be entitled to a reward of £40, this is to certify that on 17 March 1717 Leonard Warren of Newmarket was convicted of housebreak and that he was apprehended by James Shade, Thomas Fisher and John Richard; the Sheriff is directed to pay them. Signed by Robert Donner, Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. On the back are three receipts for the sums paid signed by the three recipients respectively. Witnesses: John Yorke, John Boswell; Francis Godfrey of Newmarket, John Robinson of the same; Thomas Gibbart, Ann Gibbart.
