Scope and Content

Comprises autograph verses by William Clayfield, including 'On a young lady's stooping at a window to examine the Arabis-Stricta recently transplanted from St Vincent's rocks' (dated 1822); 'On the Nymphica Alba or White Waterlily found in Staffordshire, written at Ashbourne near Dovedale' (dated 1824), and 'Lines suggested by young Mr Knight's being accidentally shot by his friend Mr Barnaby' (dated 1828). There is also a poem by Dr Thomas Beddoes 'Lines written in the early part of the French Revolution by Dr Beddoes on a young lady placing the National Cockade in her hair'.
