Scope and Content

An album containing mounted prints, the majority sepia toned, with typescript captions and explanatory notes. The prints are of various sizes but the majority measuring approximately 200 x 150 mm. They were taken by Mrs Malcolm Barker, Miss Mignon Herring, Miss Killie Campbell, Miss Barbara Tyrrell, Dr Wager, Lyn Acutt and C, Whysall. The tribes represented are: Ndebele, Zulu, Tonga, Swazi, Shagaan, Bushmen, Basuto, Pondo, Xhosa, Fingo, Tembu. The album also contains two short articles (probably part of a longer series) on African tribal costume by Barbara Tyrrell, extracted from the Veld Trust News (February and March 1948).
