Administrative / Biographical History

The first meeting of the Scottish Federation of Woven Wire Manufacturers was held on 15 June 1943  . The objects of the federation included "to deal with the matters arising out of or connected with the employment of labour in the manufacture of woven wire", "to secure mutual support and co-operation in connection with the demands of labour", "to regulate general rates of wages" and "to watch all legislative measures which may affect this or any other trade concerned, with a view to taking such action as may be deemed necessary, and to deal with any questions which may be of interest to these trades". The federation was managed by a council which consisted of one representative from each member firm (usually 4) and an annually elected chairman. Thomson McLintock, chartered accountants, Glasgow, Scotland were appointed secretaries. The federation also appointed representatives to the Scottish Joint Industrial Council for the Woven Wire Industry , as did the National Union of General & Municipal Workers and the Transport & General Workers Union. At the annual general meeting on 14 October 1969  all the members of the Scottish Federation of Woven Wire Manufacturers intimated their resignations and as a result the federation ceased to exist from that date.
