Scope and Content

In consideration of #170, Richard Berney of Norwich, clerk, and Mary his wife (nee Raby, sister and heir of Thomas Raby deceased), convey to Zachariah Mart of Cambridge, gent, and to Mary his wife, a tenement in Preachers Street, parish of St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, late in the occupation of Margaret Raby, widow. For better security, the Berneys undertake to levy a fine to William Lamborn of Cambridge, toyman, and his heirs. Lease (for one year at peppercorn rent) signed and sealed by both Berneys, witnessed by John Chambers and James Barnham, duty stamp. Release in the form of a tripartite indenture, signed and sealed by both Berneys and Lamborn, witnessed by Martha Pecket and John Smith, duty stamps. Release endorsed with receipt for consideration money, same date, signed by the Berneys, witnessed by Barnham and Chambers. Release further endorsed: '4', and in pencil in a later hand: 'Cambridge / Crown and Woolpocket'. Enclosed with the lease and release is a single copy of the above-mentioned fine, return date: Morrow of All Souls, 32 George II.
