Manuscript research notes taken from an account book of Priscilla Bradley (fl 1814-1866)of Nottingham, 1973

Scope and Content

The collection consists of research notes made by J.L. Whitley from study of the account book ofPriscilla Bradley (ne Hine) of Nottingham. The notes are written in blue ink and begin with a shortparagraph by Whitley explaining the genealogy of Priscilla. The entries from the account book coverthe period 1830 to 1866 and give details about the cost of furnishing houses and stocking kitchensat the time. Some of the entries may be direct copies from the original, but many of the notes areclearly a summary or interpretation of the evidence.

Administrative / Biographical History

Priscilla, the daughter of Jonathon Hine and his wife Melicent (ne Chambers), married JosephBradley, a Nottingham lawyer. Joseph was the second son of Thomas Lowe Bradley, alderman, glover andtobacco merchant of Smith Row, Nottingham and his wife Hannah, daughter of Thomas Chambers (one ofthe founders of the firm that became I. and R. Morley).

The original volume was still in private hands when these notes were made, apparently by J.L.Whitley who held the account book at that time. They were given in March 1973 to the University ofNottingham's Department of Manuscripts.
