Scope and Content

Henry Thomas Ellis was junior officer on HMS Styx, later a Royal Navy commander and author, Hong Kong to Manila (London, 1859). Styx sailed off South Africa (1852) during the Kaffir War; and (1853) sailed for Burma. During the siege of Rangoon, Styx carried wounded to hospital at Amherst, Gulf of Martaban, and went to Madras and Trincomalee. —1 volume, 210 pp. of journal text, 1852-53. [With loose sheets, including page of Illustrated London News, 5 FEB 1853, illustration and note on Kaffir prisoners at the Cape; notes on Ascension Island, n.d.; On passage from Ascension to South Coast, n.d.; Notes on South Coast, n.d.].
