Scope and Content

John Purcas, of Wickham Brook, Suffolk, yeoman, and Martha his wife, one of the daughters and co-heirs of John Prime, of Little Wilbraham, Cambs, yeoman, deceased, and John Clark, of Soham, Cambs., grocer, and Ann his wife (John Clark being son and heir of Mary Clark, deceased, one other of the daughters and co-heirs of John Prime) in consideration of £180 paid to them by David Chapman of [Lalling?] in the county of Essex, gent., before the sealing of these presents, acquit and discharge the said D.C. And also for a further £200 paid by D.C. to John Cooper, citizen and currier of London towards the discharging of a certain mortgage made by John Prime to John Cooper of the messuage and lands hereinafter mentioned and whereof two parts in three are intended to be conveyed, this sum of £380 to be paid for the absolute purchase of the said two parts of the said messuages (sometimes Burtons?) lying in Little Wilbraham, and a close called Hammerstreet, and one [pightell?] called Hunts, all in the occupation of Richard Burton. Also two parts of 40 acres of freehold land, also in occupation of R. Burton whereof 3 1/2 roods lie in two stretches in the fields and bounds of Stow-cum-Quy and the other 39 acres 1/2 rood in Little Wilbraham, all these and all rights belonging to them with regard to the 2 parts Purcas and Clark gave up to Chapman and his heirs for ever to be the true and lawful owners, the indenture of mortgage only excepted ... Purcas & c. to surrender into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Rinotts or of any other manor in Wilbraham, Bottisham, or Stow-cum-Quy for the use of D. Chapman and all of the copyhold lands which they have in the said manors, and Chapman to be free of all charges and mortgages on the lands. And Purcas & c. on Chapman's paying the £200 to John Cooper, shall procure the said J. Cooper to assign over all the premises etc. to such person as D. Chapman shall appoint in trust nevertheless for Chapman etc. to attend and wait upon the freehold inheritance of the premises for the protecting and defending the same against [mesue?] and incumbrances. And Purcas etc. promise to do anything necessary within the next 10 years for the establishing the claims of Chapman to the lands. Signed by John Purcas, Martha Purcas, John Clark, and Ann Clark. Witnesses: John Wale, Gre. Wale, and [Ag.?] Stevenson. Four seals attached. Also on back the receipts for £90 to each family, one signed by John and Martha Purcas, witnessed by John Wale and Aq. Stevenson, and the other by John and Ann Clark, witnessed by John Wale. On back at top of second membrane is a stamp with the figures 184, crown monogram of [?] Anne.
