Joseph Parry Papers

Scope and Content

This collection contains the papers of Joseph Parry and his in-laws, the Ambrose Lloyds, consisting of notes, correspondence, diaries, newspaper cuttings and other printed material. A lot of material relates to his father-in-law, the musician and composer, John Ambrose Lloyd which was collated for the biography of the composer, written by his son Charles Francis Lloyd between 1915 and 1917. The collection also contains documents accumulated by Parry in his professional capacity as a water engineer in Liverpool as well as miscellaneous personal and family papers.

Administrative / Biographical History

Joseph Parry was for many years a prominent member of the Liverpool Welsh community and a water engineer of considerable standing in the city. He was also the son-in-law of John Ambrose Lloyd (1815-1874) the eminent Welsh musician and composer. As the material shows, Joseph Parry was keenly interested in the life and work of his father-in-law and collected a considerable amount of genealogical material and other data. He was largely responsible for ensuring the publication in 1921 of the biographical work John Ambrose Lloyd - Hanes ei Fywyd a'i Weithiau after the death of its author Charles Francis Lloyd in 1917.

Arrangement
