Hieronymus Henninges: 'Genealogicum Opus Universale'

Scope and Content

Manuscript for 'Theatrum Genealogicum', 4 volumes, Magdeburg, 1598. The title page reads Genealogicum opus universale: continens omnes omnium aetatum familias monarchorum, regum, ducum... collectum et quatuor tomis distinctum opera et studio M. Hieronymi Henninges Lunaeburgensis ... 1578. There is a preface, followed by the first three volumes of the Theatrum Genealogicum: Tomus I, Genealogicarum tabellarum continens illustrissimas familias patriarcharum... Regum Israelis et Judae... Jesu Christi ..., printed by Michael Cröner, Ultzen, 1583. Tomus II, MS, patriarchal and royal genealogies. Tomus III, MS, Greek genealogies. The fourth book mentioned in the title is not present. At the end is a bibliography of works consulted by Henninges. The volume includes insertions, corrections, additional matter, and many small engravings, mostly heraldic. There are also signatures and annotations of ownership, 1662 and 1772.
