Pwllheli and Nefyn Light Railway Papers

Scope and Content

Papers relating to a proposal to construct a light railway from Pwllheli to Nefyn and Porth Dinllaen. They include correspondence with the Town Clerk of Pwllheli, plans of suggested route, estimate of expenses etc.

Administrative / Biographical History

As far back as the 1830's, proposals were made for a railway route to go to Porth Dinllaen on the Llyn peninsula. These plans were the result of the belief that Porth Dinllaen, rather than Holyhead, would become the main port linking Britain and Ireland.
