The collection comprises correspondence with Innes' parents, schoolmasters, literary figures and friends, papers on Innes' school education, his literary and broadcasting career and various clubs and societies he belonged to. Also included are research notes, many for foreign countries, diaries and photographs. There is also a small collection of papers relating to Dorothy Mary Innes.

Scope and Content
Arrangement
The arrangement of the papers that has been adopted in the catalogue is based on the filing system developed by Hammond Innes and his secretaries, Mrs Nora Anderson and Mrs Gillian Durrant. Mr & Mrs Hammond Innes are referred to throughout the catalogue as 'RHI' and 'DMI' respectively.

Acquisition Information
The papers of Hammond Innes, including a small quantity of papers of his wife Dorothy Mary née Lang, were presented to the Library in 1998 by D.E. Long Esq of Charles Russell Solicitors, on behalf of the Executors of Hammond Innes, through the Friends of Cambridge University Library. The Library is most grateful to the Executors for their generous gift.
