Bangor and District Women's Suffrage Society Minute Book

Comprises a minute book of the Bangor and District Women's Suffrage Society for 1912-1921.

Bangor and District Women's Suffrage Society was established at Bangor, north Wales, ca. 1910, as part of the movement agitating for women's suffrage which emerged in 1903 with the founding of the Women's Social and Political Union, under the leadership of Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters. The Bangor society described itself as law abiding and non-party and stated a desire to have an educative as well as propagandist impact. Members were from Bangor and the surrounding areas and included Evelyn Lamport, who regularly chaired the executive committee meetings, Gwladys Hudson Williams, Mrs E.O. Price, Mrs Price White, Eleanor Rathbone, Mrs Corbett Ashby and Miss Pinkerton. In 1918 women in the UK were granted limited rights to vote and stand for election subject to conditions and restrictions which were lifted in 1928 entitling them to equal rights with men.
