Administrative / Biographical History

The Academic Congress is a meeting of the whole of the full time academic staff of the University. It is called at least once a year to be addressed by the Principal. The Congress has the power to discuss and declare an opinion on any matter relating to the University and to communicate directly with the Court or Senate on such matters.

The Principal is the chief academic and administrative officer of the University. He is responsible for the day to day management of the University and is also responsible to the University Court for the finances of the University.

In the absence of the Chancellor, the Principal exercises and performs all the functions of the Chancellor, including the conferment of degrees.

The Principal is elected by the Court.
