Records collected by the Welsh Agricultural Organsiation Society, 1939-1979, including correspondence and financial records of Pembrokeshire-based societies and groups, including Pembroke Quality Livestock and Pembroke Quality Lamb Group, 1972-1977; Pembrokeshire Early Potato Growers' Association, 1962-1970; Haverfordwest Agricultural Co-operative Society, 1956-1977; Crymych Seed Potato Growers Ltd, 1939-1949; Crymych and District Farmers' Association, 1958-1970; North Pembrokeshire Weaner Group, 1964-1974; records of Pembrokeshire forage groups, 1970-1975; and records of Pembrokeshire rabbit clearance societies, 1958-1963.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Welsh Agricultural Organisation Society Ltd (WAOS) is a central body for agricultural co-operation. Its function is to promote, represent and offer leadership to local societies and co-ordinate their activities. It was founded in 1922 as the result of restructuring of the Agricultural Organisation Society and is funded by subscriptions from member bodies and by grants. In the course of its work, it accumulated records of the member bodies.

Restriced access. Files under 30 years old may not be seen without the written permission of WAOS. Permission will not be forthcoming when such files relate to job applications, debts and County Court actions.

Custodial History

The WAOS records were deposited in the National Library of Wales, [c. 1984]. Files relating to individual counties were then distributed to local Record Offices. The majority of the Society's pre-1945 records were destroyed when moving into new premises in 1958.
