The collection comprises:

• Minute books. 1947-1962 (UN UU 4/1);
• Correspondence. 1959-1960 (UN UU 4/2);
• Minutes, typed, with attached papers. 1962-1963 (UN UU 4/3);
• Photocopied circulars relating to the activities of the society, (UN UU 4/4);
• Service registers for the chapel at The University of Nottingham. 1956-1975 (UN UU 4/5);
• Printed cards relating to the society and church activities in the university generally.1850s-1960s (UN UU 4/6);
• Account book. 1963-1966 (UN UU 4/7).

The Anglican Society of The University of Nottingham was formed in 1947 to providefellowship in worship, study and Christian witness for members of the Church of England in theuniversity. Holy Communion was conducted on campus in the Portland Building's lecture hall everySunday morning and local churches were visited in turn for Evensong. Meetings and talks at theuniversity following Evensong were also a regular occurrence. Preparation for confirmation wasarranged in the winter. Holy Communion, matins and evensong were also celebrated throughout the weekin the university chapel.

The Bishop of Southwell was the honorary president of the society which was led by the universitychaplain. The society, along with others such as the Methodist Society, was represented by theChristian Association which promoted study, mission and corporate prayer within the university. TheAnglican Society is no longer in existence.

The collection has been divided by document type into series. Within these series, items havebeen arranged chronologically.
