Administrative / Biographical History

Papers of the Conference on European Inland Transport (CEIT) set up in 1944to restore the transport system of Continental Europe after Liberation. TheChairman was Labour Party minister Baron Philip Noel Baker (1889 - 1982).Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, the Netherlands,Norway, USSR, UK, USA and Yugoslavia sent delegations. The papers mainlyrelate to the negotiations leading to the agreement to set up the EuropeanCentral Inland Transport Organisation.
