Administrative / Biographical History

Captain James Stewart was interested in the origin and history of the place names of Southern Europe and Asia. He worked in the late nineteenth century, translating works of earlier authors and historians, and compiling his own research notes. No further details of his life and work have been established - it is not known if his work was ever published.
