Diaries kept by members of the White family, consisting of:  

  • Diaries of Henry White at Fyfield, 1785, 1788
  • Diaries of Charles Henry White and Sampson White at Fyfield, 1790-1802
  • Diaries of Sampson White at Maidford, 1800-23
  • Diary of Francis Henry White, 1804
  • Diary of Sampson Henry White, 1826
  The diaries include detailed weather reports, with accounts of work and events in parish, farm, garden and household.

Administrative / Biographical History

The White family of Selborne includes Henry White (1733-1788), Rector of Fyfield and naturalist; Charles Henry White (d 1859), second son of Henry White; Sampson White (d 1826) eldest son of Henry White; Francis Henry White (d 1864), fourth son of Henry White; and Sampson Henry White (d 1871), son of Sampson White.
