Literary papers of Katharine Morris, writer and social worker, undated,c.1990

The collection comprises undated, unannotated and unpublished typescript manuscripts by KatharineMorris of:

• A novel, 'When all the trees were green' (MS 585/1).
• A short story, 'In celebration of Christine' (MS 585/2).
• Reminiscences, 'In memory of Tony Murphy' (MS 585/3).
• Collection of poems, 'The Pendant World and other poems' (MS 585/4).
• Diary entries, 'Some notes written during The Battle of Britain in 1940' (MS 585/5).

Katharine Morris was born in Nottingham in 1910 to wealthy lace factory owner, Robert Morris. Thefamily moved to Bleasby, Nottinghamshire when Katharine was eight where she was educated at home andbegan to develop her interest in writing. She became an auxiliary nurse at the outbreak of thesecond world war and joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. After the war, she travelled toHamburg, Germany to help destitute families and then returned to London where she became a socialworker. Katharine Morris retired to Bleasby in 1974 where she continued to assist at the primaryschool. She died in 1999.

Her published works were, Country Dance (Hodder and Stoughton; London, 1951), TheVixen's Club (Macmillan; London, 1955), The House by the Water (Macmillan; London, 1957),and The Long Meadow (Macmillan; London, 1958).

The collection has been arranged by title.
