Custodial History

The library wrote to all the political parties which were registered to contestthe elections, many of which donated a selection of their publications andother materials. A number of South African libraries donated duplicates fromtheir own collections. The South African Friends of the Bodleian collectedon the library's behalf, as did many individuals. The library also purchaseda considerable quantity of material, including many of the posters, through oneof its regular South African book suppliers. The decision was also taken tocollect non-party material and some older material where this was deemedrelevant to the election process.
