Acquisition Information

Purchased 1990; Hengrave Hall Deposit, 52, 'Catalogue of books and Manuscripts at Hengrave Hall', 1872, mentions 16 volumes of drawings of the Isle of Wight, Windsor, Bury to Clifton, Wales, the Lakes, Yorkshire, Ireland, etc., 1807-10, of which these albums are probably three; much of the antiquarian, literary, and topographical material collected by the Gage family is contained in the Hengrave Hall deposit; it is unclear when these sketchbooks were separated from the collection and sold.
